A/C Question

I'm planning on putting a new a/c compressor in my truck. It's been broke now for a while and someone said that if you keep running it after it's broke, it will put little metal shavings in the a/c system. Is this correct, or are they full of crap. I was just wondering if this is true, how to get rid of all those shavings without having to replace everything. Thanks for all yer help in advance.

No they are not full of crap. It can happen. I would replace the reciever/dryer when you replace the compressor. It is where all the trash is suppossed to end up. Most parts stores won't warranty a compressor if a reciever dryer isn't purchased at the same time. Good luck.

also flush the lines, condenser, and evaporator core with an a/c flush solvent.
all the junk isn't so much from continuing to run a bad compressor as mcuh as when the comprssor actually went bad. also make sure you add the correct amount of oil to the system or who ever charges it gets the oil in there.
