Wink Air Vent

On the old 51 F3 I bought for parts there is a outside vent from under the front passenger fender to the heater box to bring in fresh outside air. Is this a common thing on the larger trucks, was it an option. Just curious.

From what I've seen, if I'm not mistaken, it was how it was designed to work from the factory.

The fresh air heater may have been an option.

MY 48 F-3 has a rectangular "knock out" panel in the cowl under the passenger side fender for the fresh air heater but apparently it was never equipped with one since that panel is still intact. Heaters were definitely an option in these old trucks...

Yes it must be an option on the F3 and not the F1. That panel is where the air vent bolts on.

At least in 53-56 all heaters were an option, with the fresh air model being the "deluxe" option.

The magic Air heater was an option on all the 48-52 trucks maybe except the COEs. I actually have two.

Let me ask a quick ? here?

Are you just asking about the "Vent" running under the passenger fender or are you asking about both the "Vent" & the "Heater"?

Vent and Heater

This truck has a heater and an extra vent that draws air in from under the front fender, I was wondering if this was a common option as my F1 has no vent but does have a heater.

This was one of the options available & is called a "Fresh Aire Heater", as oppossed to the "Recirculating Aire Heater" that you have.

Though I've seen this "Vent" from under the front passenger fender w/o the heater & no evidence of the heater ever being there.
