mulot30th...You probably have some "Lag" built into the tunes you have. This is where a custom tune will make a difference. This may not totally be lag...it may be your transmission not hooking up like in a custom tune. You can convert your stock SCT Tuner into a Custom Tuner and use others tunes.
It does sound like lag from the way you described it being present at startup but disappears once you are up to speed.
The tunes that I have are from InnovativeDiesels(SCT Dealer) and Eric has made some adjustments for me that make my truck feel amazing from 0-80mph...That's what is great about this tuner.
The lag is certainly still there in a custom file, just less than stock. When you romp the throttle and it bellows black smoke that is a textbook sign of too much fuel and not enouh air. Otherwise known as lag. All turbos have lag. The only way to artificially aspirate without lag is nitrous or supercharger.
Customz...That's what I thought. One major thing that I have noticed with my SCT is the missing bellows of Black Smoke when i get it the throttle. There is still black smoke present but nothing like when I had my FlashPaq. I commented about this in another post but nobody responded. My truck is an '06 and I run the stock airbox after trying an AirRaid and saw no difference. I'm also running the MBRP 4" exhaust. I guess I have just found a tuner that works near perfect with my truck.
From a stop start I used my gtech in two different runs in STREET tune.
0-60mph time with no 'brake torquing' was 8.25 seconds
0-60mph time with 'brake torquing' to 1750rpm or so then releasing the brakes yielded a 7.05 seconds time.
That was with fuel tank full and a passenger...
So I guess I have 1.25 seconde of turbo lag!
And yes I get a black cloud of smoke while in turbo lag...
Where were you when I posted about anyone else with a G-tech and SCT? I will have to go rerun mine as I never did any 0-60 times. Are you running stock tires/gearing? My 1/4 mile times were consistent 16 seconds. Give or take a few hundreths. I actually had one run at 15, but could never get it again. Must have been a fluke. I am running 35" tires and 4.5" lift so mine are probably slower. Also, are you power braking in 4WD? It is the only way to fly! I cannot power brake without 4WD as they break loose too easily and then I am done.

I am pretty sure it isn't the tranny. It is Turbo lag. At least with my 06
I also have another question. I have seriously considered giving Innovative a call for some custom tunes even before this post. When you get their tunes. Are you paying for each individual tune or do you get one of each TOW STREET and PERFORMANCE? And what is an approximate cost for this?
Thanks

Yes Call Innovative Diesel Hey Have The Mot Awesome Tune Can Even Get Rid Of The Turbo Lag With The Tow Tune I Lmow The Extreme Tune Is 100.00 And 65.00 For Re-tuning The Others Don't Know How Much It Is For 3 Tunes I Bought My Sct From Them With The Custom Tunes, Give Them A Call I Know You Will Love Their Tunes
There are a number of tunes. The options presented to me were for my SCT Xcal 2 tuner / Street, Max Tune, Tow and Economy (you also have your stock tune saved too). The tow tune has more torque while the Street & Max tune have the get up an go horsepower. I went with the Tow, Econ, & Max.
Dyno Joe is the man in Houston at www.dynojoe.com I think he has done more diesel tunes than most.
Okay today I installed my new EGT gauge and did a run in Performance tune. I left the shift point at stock mph/rpm so I know there is a little more to get there!
I am still on stock exhaust, so my EGT was touching the 1200-1250deg at about 70mph (when I release the pedal)....
So using my gtech I got a 0-60mph time of 6.30 seconds on my very first try... and I spinned the 4 WHEELS for about 2 feets
wowwww!!!
this thing has some 5 seconds 0-60 times in it when I get my new exhaust!
Very nice mulot. I still have not taken any 0-60 times. I will try to get them in the next couple days post here. I don't keep the g-tech in the truck and keep forgetting it. I can't believe those EGT's went up that quick for just 0-60. I don't have any guages either and ran a few 1/4miles on mine when I first got it and that was it. I only run in street since then.
