I had my 97 4x4 off road the other day. And it may of become airborne a few times. Nothing extreme some watery mud and low semi low speed big bumps that boucne the front end into the air. I have a clunk in the steering column now. The steering wheel and steering is perfectly tight just like always. But on any bump and even accelerating and stopping I feel a clunk in the steering column. Any ideas?
could be a broken steering column? My buddy had the same problem with his 97 superduty... replaced it (very costly) and it fixed all the steering problems
there are no problems though. everything operates perfectly. Thes teering wheel doesn't wobble or anything I can just feel a clunk where something in the steering system is moving
get under it and have a look while some bounces the truck. your drag link might be bent, one of your tie rods may be loose, idler arm. you should see something hitting. also it could be your steering shaft depending on the severity of the noise
