The usual annoying front end clunk is back this time with a slight twist. It only happens while applying the brakes at low speeds. Track Bar brand new, sway bar bushings and end links replaced in January and ball joints replaced about 25K miles/4 years ago. The front end feels tight going over bumps xcept for this little clunk while braking. I have not climbed underneath yet however I have noticed the brakes squealing lately. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Also feeling a clunk when braking at low speeds. Not every time, but has happened a few times in the last couple days. My first thought was something in the back was rolling forward and hitting the box front, but nothing was back there...
Mine isn't the driveline. It never clunks when putting it in Drive or first taking off. On the plus side, it hasn't done it in a few days. Several days ago I heard a terrible screeching sound from outside like a rock in my caliper. I tapped the brakes and felt a big clunk, like the others, but much more pronounced. The screeching sound stopped and it hasn't clunked while braking since.
I know I'm new to the forum, but I had some of the same problems. I had a caliper bolt come loose and when the brakes were apllied the caliper made a clunk noise and eventually the bolt came out and swung down and was scoring the inside of my rim. luckly the other bolt stayed on.
My traded off 02 F250 was making clunking noises under the floorboard and I had to replace the front Leaf spring bushings, Would hit a bump and the whole axle assembly would hop ! Wouldn't clunk on take off but the average (if you will) bump would cause the Leaf spring mounts to clunk up and down. 4wd was used ALOT on that truck. I replaced all the bushings up front but those ,problem solved.

Heh, wasn't near my place. Sounded like a curb edge trimmer with the operator riding the concrete too hard. I actually looked around to see if someone was running one.
I'm having the same problem of low speed clunk when braking too. It only happens after I've turned the steering wheel 1/2+ turns left or right and returned to center. Brake caliper bolts are tight, new shocks, and new sway bar bushings have all been changes with no fix.
If yours does it after changing steering I'd check ball joints; they could be flopping side to side.
I also had an annoying "Clunk" sound that often occured when I first applied the brakes. I took it to a dealer and the only fix they offered was to replace the front brake pads (they said the pads could be loose and chucking). I declined because the brakes were only 4K miles old.
Well at my last inspection, the local auto shop told me I needed new ball joints and the mechanic showed me how much play there was in the front wheels when the truck was jacked up. My 2004 truck only has 34K miles on it so I was skeptical that the ball joints could really be so bad, but I had them replaced to pass inspection and lo and behold my truck hasn't "clunked" since.
So clunking can definitely be caused by worn ball joints, even if they only have 30K miles or so on them!
