I got the MPLS at NAPA and they called it a neutral safety switch. My trans is an E4OD. I thought the C6 used the NSS and mine uses the MPLS? Anyway is there any special way to install the MPLS? Does the trans have to be in neutral? Does the electrical connection have to be rebuilt? Thanks.
Its common for the MLPS be called a Neutral Safty Switch. That's just the way the parts house catalogs it in their system.
Changing it is pretty easy. You do have to take the linkage loose, its located on the driver's side of the transmission case just above the pan rail. Once in place wait to torque the bolts until you have it adjusted. You need to adjust it so that the van starts in both park and neutral. That should do it.
You shouldn't have to do anything to the connector but do look closely at it. The connector type was changed at some point (I forget which model year) and all of the replacement MLPSs use the newer style connector. If you have the early style on your van you will have to replace the connector. Ford sells a new pigtail for this purpose.
