We have problems with people that are from east of the Rockies coming here in the winter time and figure we can drive in snow no problem. The biggest problem is the snow where they are from is drier its sticky so your tires bite into it. Here its wet and heavy you make a snow ball and throw it at somebody its like throwing a rock at somebody its hard.
Not only is the snow worse, for many of them it is the first time they've driven on a hill. Powder on the flat is nothing compared to Cascade snow on hills.
not sure of the compatibility of 01 D60 front with 96 F350 chassis. i KNOW for SURE a D60 out of any 86 to 97 1 ton will bolt right in with out any drilling, cutting or welding.... i've done it several times.
-cutts-
sooperdoody's have metric centering hubs and a metric bolt pattern. Unless you change the back you'd have different bolt patterns front and back.
Plus sooperdoodys front axles have the unit bearings that are $300 instead of $20.

This is kind of an old thread.. Dont know if these same people frequent! LOL!
If you want something a little more recent, you can check out mine...
I cant say with certainty that they did or didnt make the 350 4-wheel drive in that year. I would have to say they did, cause I have even seen 89 F-350 dually's with 4-wheel drive. As for donor parts, stick from 87-97.. If you have any questions, hit me up!

I still drop in every once in a while. Midwest, lots of good info in your thread.
I got bad news for you a dually 4x4 is almost useless in the snow it won't do much better than the stock 2wd as the truck is now.
This. My crew cab dually used to get stuck in wet grass. My SRW 1 ton digs right thru. Even when I had the 4x4 dually i got stuck alot just spinning on the top.

here is a list of truck years to look for a donor axle:
1978-79 F-350 and some F-250 (Snofighter and High GVW packages)
1986-88 F-350 with dual rear wheels (DRW)
I WANNA COVERT MY EXCURSION SO BAD , WHAT WOULD I HAVE TO LOOK FORWARD TO? AND HOW HARD WOULD THIS BE?
Not sure on the Excursion. If it is coil spring front, you might be able to swap in a '05+ front axle pretty easily since they switched to coil springs on the 4x4's that year.
