Agree with the duals, with the 4x4 the front wheels pull you around with 4000lbs on the front tires, I've weighed in at 3900lbs before all the accesseries on the front of my truck. A plain dually sucks ***, thiers a guy where I live he pulls his duals off and runs singles in the winter, he has a 2x4 long box CC. hes forever stuck even with the singles

k guys if convertin a 2wd to 4wd is possible can the front leaf springs, brackets, and all the under carriage things axle and all off a 01 F350 single wheel work or not i know my dads 01 the brackets would bolt up to mine the year model like mine i have looked and the front bracket for the leaf spring bolts to the inside of the frame that involves cutting the frame something i wont do that only leaves on other option building a custom one right, now heres the thing the reason im asking about this is i just had the front end redone not long ago ball joints and tie rods replaced and now the A arm bracket on the right side the rivets are wore out the very back side of both sides has a bolt in it, dont know if it came from the factory that way or if the previous owner put them in but i need the extra ground clearance and the 4wd would sure be nice working in the oilfield too, let me know if the front axle and all that off a newer truck will work on mine at least the leaf springs and brackets and then ill go get a D60 front axle and put in there if have too thanks and any help on this or the other topic i posted would greatly be appreciated though alot, thanks Lance

not sure of the compatibility of 01 D60 front with 96 F350 chassis. i KNOW for SURE a D60 out of any 86 to 97 1 ton will bolt right in with out any drilling, cutting or welding.... i've done it several times.

So i've got a 2000 f250 powerstroke, but i don't see anyone in there that's done anything... i was thinking a mild lift along with the 4wd conversion would be VERY cool... it's paid off, and i love her. Anyone have any advice? knowlege on the topic?

Buy a new truck and swap out.
I had a '76 2wd f250, would get stuck on bird crap, so i spent too much money on axle, t-case, shafts etc. and in the end it was fully functional, but not right, linkage was a mess didnt steer/drive for crap and i gave up bought a trashed '77 4x4 with blown engine and swapped everything, would have been SOOO much cheaper to do that from the start

It all depends on the tires. I've done amazing things with my 2wd dually and can't wait to finish my conversion. I have the Dana 60 ready to go except for the gear swap (4.10-3.55) Before the gears, it's come to aprox. $1200 Canadian. I found a donor truck with a worn out 7.3 and just swapped everything over.

If you want to retain the wheels you have, Arrorcraft sells adapters that allow you to put DRW wheels on a D60.

Sorry, dont mean to but in on your thread Healinhand. Briansshop, where did you get the cap for your truck? It looks great! Nice and light I am sure. It takes me and two people to get mine on and off. It would be great if you can tell me the brand and where you got it.

Thanks

My Dana 60 is already set up for DRW. The problem is finding cheap extra-wide DRW rims for it.

The wheels on mine are 16x12 Mickey Thompsons. I thought about running duals on it but the tire choice is so limited in the dually size. I 4 wheel mostly on sand so the big singles are better for me anyway.

The cap is made: Can-Back Canvas Truck Camper Shell The company is under new ownership and just getting going again.

Very lite and flexible. I can remove it myself. I like it...a lot!

I'm planning on doing a 4wd conversion on mine. I have the donor truck sitting at home back in Oregon while I'm stationed in NC though.
