Search isn't working right now, so I thought I'd post this. I have a code 628. Has anyone had any luck changing the atf and filter to solve this code, or do I need a new TC?
You need to identify what you're working on: Year and which model transmission.
Also, you need to provide a COMPLETE list of observed symptoms.

I have a code 628. The fluid is burned some and when the code is removed, the trans shifts smoothly (no slam shifting), but slips upshifting into 2nd. With the code it slam shifts.
If you don't already have $2,000 in the truck repair account, I think you should start saving as quickly as you can. Changing the fluid will slow the rate of damage but it can't repair the damage that has already occurred.
You really only have two long term choices, schedule it for a rebuild or wait until you get the last mile out of it and have to tow it to the shop. It is the price one pays for owning an automatic transmission and not changing the fluid more often than anyone would think one should.
