Ok,
so I've got a line on an 8.8 5bolt out of a 88 lincoln with disk brakes $200.
I was wondering if it would be a direct swap into my 1992 f-150- width wise. From what I'm told the tag number is
L08A888f1 4
423f
I'm not looking to spend too much money on my f-150. Thought about d60 solid axle swaps, but I don't have the time or another vehicle right now.
Stock drive train parts are in abundance out here.
Also have a source for an Eaton E-locker for $500 (from open to full locker) for my 8.8. I thought that by having a selectable locker would be a good idea.
By having the second axle, that I could re-gear and locker; it would be a quick swap with minimal downtime. And also have spare parts in the end.
I heard the perches on that lincoln 8.8 are for airbags OR coils, which actually ain't such a bad thing. But I don't wanna screw around changing linkages and crap right now. If I'm going to go through the trouble for an 8.8, I would rather have a d60.
The Lincoln has air bags, it's too short, has the wrong pinion offset and the wrong wheel bolt pattern. The carrier is wrong also (28 spline to the trucks 31 spline). Forget it, find a truck 8.8 axle, there out there.

Width wise, I'm not sure on. But I do know that the bolt pattern is different and you won't be able to use your current wheels unless you re-drill the rotors.
The pinion along with the driveshafts on trucks are offset to the right a few inches. Cars are down the center. 88 Lincolns don't have leaf springs. The mounting bracket for the air bag is in the same position as the coil springs for the Crown Vic if you have a Town Car or the Mustang/TBird if you have a Mark7.
the offset wont matter, thats what u joints are for. i always thought that they just had super soft leafs, i thought i remembered them on my brothers 88 lincoln, musta been thinking of somthing else
The entire drivetrain on these trucks is off center...
That lincoln axle will not work...its not wide enough and like he said the offset is wrong and it's the wrong spline count.
The 8.8s come in different widths and differential locations. On our trucks, the differential is more to the drivers side....and no the u-joints will not take up that missmatch.
