I recall someone had a TSB bulletin ( I think) on switching the rear blocks, side to side and turning them, on a F-350 to help or eliminate driveline take-off shudder,?? Anybody know where to find it ??
My 06 has a case of the shudders, on take-off,,and it does not have the center carrier bearing,,Short bed ! Seems to be worse with trailer en-tow.
Don't know about the tsb ,but if you have a LS unit in the rear diff it could need a little friction modifier added to calm down the unit a little.
Next question is how much tonque weight does this trailer add to the rear off the truck .
yes if you have too much you will cause a driveline angle problem!
I would see the dealer and tell them about shudder on take off under load.

How bad is it? my 03 F250 SD SC 4x4 has had one since new (not real bad, passengers don't notice it), 75,000 miles ago. have put on a 3"/1" Donahoe levelling kit, increased tire size to 33's, hauled a camper, pulled a boat, etc. it's the same, dealer has never been able to find it. it's no worse than when new. i finally accepted it as part of the truck. Not sure if this makes you feel any better, but you are not alone!
Yes on the LS unit,,but I thought they only possibly made a chatter when turning ?
Well so far the only trailers I have had hooked to it just made the helper springs touch there mounts, maybe dropped 1", truck looks level with trailers hooked up.
Now my last truck, 04' F-350,V-10, 6-speed, DRW also had the LS,,no shudder at all,,this truck was also a few inchs lower with tailgate lowered, (tailgate load heights), the 04' also had sway bars (camper package), any ideas if the sway bars help the rear with a shudder problem ?? 06' has no sway bar in rear. and is the 11,200 GVW, shudder is not that bad, but I feel it, last oil change I had the dealer do,,the tech could not feel it when driven. Thanks for any Ideas.,,,,,,,,Mark
Mark if you can get it to do it with the trailers on the truck ,then you need to take the tech for a ride with them hooked up to the truck.
It needs to have the friction modifier added to the rear diff.
Some trucks have come from the factory with too much or too little.
Shudder is the clutch packs within the ls .
No ,they don't just do it on turns.
My '01 has the take-off shudder since brand-new. If I load it with 2000lbs in the bed, it goes away.
It's driveline angle, at least in my case. I can see the difference in u-joint angles at the transfer case and rear-end. One of these days, I'll do something to the rear leafs or replace the driveshaft with one with a CV joint (double u-joints) on one end and it'll be gone.
While it sounds VERY weird to hear limited-slip chatter mentioned in straight-take-off shudder, lots of Fords had it from the factory, and yes, the rear diff lube made a difference. I argued with someone about it once on this site, and they proved me wrong
What you gotta do is make sure you can get it to do it, and then drive to the Ford dealer and take a tech for a drive.
Mine only does it under EXTREME acceleration from a dead-stop (and it's NOT axle wrap!).
I'd get the driveline angles checked. Without a hanger-bearing, it's major work to try to adjust those angles. Good thing for you it's under warranty!
I noticed my truck does this too. I didn't concern myself with it because my old bosses 2003 f150 did the same thing take off. I just thought it was a ford thing.
lol (or NOT) my new 06 F350 SD SC 4x4 Diesel Long bed has the same dang shudder! just like the 03 F250 short bed. will have to check the TSB's. i got so used to it in the 03, but after reading this topic, now it bugs me
