starting problem with a newer chevy
I ihave a starting problem with a friends 2000 Cheby silverado, 5.3L 1500, 4wd z71. when we went on cruise he parked it with almost no gas in it.
he came back and poured about 10 gallons in it and tried to start it and it cranks but wont start. when he tried starting fluid with it, it fires and runs off of it, but when it is gone, it dies again.
I went over there today and looked at the relay under the hood and swapped it with a known good one pinned out the same with no luck. I dont hear the pump running, or even trying to run, and there is no fuel in the rails, i pressed in the valve core on the schrader valve and got nothing.
i almost think this has to be electrical i.e., pump not getting any power at all. it ran when he parked it 6 mos. ago, now nothing.
is there something common to these cheby's that makes them not start when they sit?
any help would be appreciated. if we cant get it to start tomorrow after work, he wants me to tow it to a garage and have them replace the fuel pump and filter at a cost of 700 dollars (pump alone is 334)
thanks guys
jamie
