Dash Rattle

I'm going to be putting my '02 F250 4x4 up for sale in the coming weeks and I really wanted to make it rattle free before selling it. There's an annoying rattle somewhere in the passenger side of the dash, sounds close to the windshield, maybe a loose bolt or something. It tends to be worst at low speeds, just an annoying sound that I know potential buyers are going to point out. What's the best way to get into the dash without damaging anything or leaving any marks?

Also, do anyone else's doors rattle in their hinges when hitting bumps and potholes? That doesn't sound so hot either.

A common problem is someone droping a pen down the defrost opening.

The dash is not real easy to remove.
I will see if ican take a look in my manuals and do a quick write up

Rich

Took a peek at it ,you don't want to go there.

You may just have a loose bolt on the top of the cowl panel .if you look at your dash by the windshield you'll see 3 plastic bumps they are removeable ,under them is a bolt maybe one is loose .Don't ask how to remove them never been in there, they are plastic becareful.

Thanks Rich. I actually had tried to pry one of them up one time and basically all I did was scratch it with the screw driver. Maybe I'll try and wrap the screwdriver with cloth or something to minimize any damage. It's probably just a loose bolt somewhere but it sounds really annoying, I know it would turn me off as a potential buyer.

Well I'll be pulling mine out in the next fews hours or day as it might take. I'll take pictures and such and work on getting it out.

I poped on here to see if I could find anything. If anyone knows how I'll prob take a couple of aggravation brakes and check in here. Thanks.

Well got the dash out. Wasn't overly complicated just tidious a fishing.

Prior to removing the dash itself I pulled out the gas and brake pedal along with the ebrake assembly. also unbolted the steering column coupler.

There are the three bolts up top 2 8mm and 1 7mm
On the driverside behind the side window defrost vent(just pull toward outside of truck) also 1 in the driverside foot area just to the right of the gas pedal. there are 2 10mm bolts and on the passenger side 1 10mm bolt behind the plastic pop out, and one below the dash.

This leaves you with a heavy dash that can be worked out slowly while disconnecting a metric butt ton of cables.

I'd post pics but it doesn't wanna let me.

My brand new '96 t-bird had a loud rattle by the windshield, somewhere inside the dash. Only on heavy bumps.

I finally found it after an hour of sticking my hand up under the dash.

Brand new screw was dropped, probably by the factory person putting the dash assembly in the car. Wound up sitting on a metal brace, rattling all the way.

It was amazing how many extra screws I found in that car in the 6 years I had it ...

Do you have automatic lights, that turn on by themselfs when it gets dark.If you do then that little black thing in the top center of the dash could be the rattle.Thats where my rattle was.

Can you tell me what you used to pop out the plastic pieces up on the top of the dash by the windshield? I don't want to break them but I think that's where my rattle is coming from.

I used about a four inch long slender flat heada screw driver. In the midle of the side closest to you is a small indent about a quater inch long. Keep the screw driver as verticle as possible and wiggle it in that indent then just pry the piece up. They pop out pretty easily.
