I have a 1997 Ford Explorer 2 WD with a 5.0 V-8 engine with an automatic transmission. My oil pump recently went out and I would like to change it myself. I have tried asking the service guys at the dealer what the installation process is...no straight answers. Can anyone tell me if I can raise the engine enough to drop the pan? Do I have to remove the transmission or can I just separate it from the engine and then raise the engine separately?
I have currently removed the exhaust and the starter so far...can I just loosen the motor mounts, unbolt the transmission and raise the engine to give me the clearance I need to drop the pan and change the oil pump?
I look forward to any response...thanks in advance!
