A CD drive question

Can anyone recomend a good CD/DVD drive cleaner?

Is it necessary to clean the drive/laser?

If I did clean it, would it improve burning CDs?

It can be necessary in extremely dusty environments. I've had to do it manually, by pulling the drive and taking it apart and cleaning the lens with a moist swab.

Is it a HP drive by chance?

furball69, it's a Sony Viao laptop with a Matsheta (replace the"e" with a "i") drive (CD-RW/DVD-ROM)

And yes, it's in a very dusty environment (birds).

If you can see the laser head when you pop the drive tray out, just take a cotton swab and some alcohol and wipe it very gently to clean off dust.
