I would liek to get my injection pump dynamicly turned but i have no idea who around the latrobe pa or greensburgh pa area who can do that.
thanks
jimmy
i dont know what to do. I wish i knew of a place to get my pump perfessionaly timed. my local injection shop says it sounds normal on it (before he said i had it to far advanced) he has 2 of these idi trucks but wont let you know to much about them and wont help you much out it seems like.
when you changed the injection pump did you remove the tower cover? you may have it out of time one tooth and it wont show up without a timing device. Take it back to the injection shop and tell them you want the timing checked and spend the money.
no i did not take the cover off and i know 100% i did not get my timing gear a tooth jumped. i made sure dad held it in place to make sure 100% it did not jump a tooth.
thanks,
Jimmy
When you retarded the timing how far off the mark are you ? What are you running for a filter and is it clean ? How does the truck start--a couple of revolutions or does it start 1st revolution ? The 6.9/7.3 are noisy motors especially when cold--retarding the timing to quiet it down might have you too far retarded. How are the water temps now and how were they before you retarded the timing ?
ok the timing mark is about 1/8-3/16 off now. (this is a rebuilt pump) and i know the old injection pump never made the noise this one did when i installed it because i had it to far advanced. so i retarded it untill it was as quiet as the other injection pump. the truck starts right up at first then runs for about 3secs then dies. cycly the glowplugs once more then crank it for about 4-5 sec it will start rigth back up and run fine. my water temp is normal and when i come up over the ridge it gets a little warmer into like the A in normal when running full bore up over the ridge with my egt's at 1100.
thanks,
Jimmy
oh yeah about a month ago i changed the fuel filter and the old one wasn't to dirty at all. it came witht he truck when i bouht it and it was on the truck 3-4months before i put this new one on it.
was the engine at idle when you changed the timing ? the timing marks should be touching. the width of the marks will make about 10 degrees difference in the timing (either way). a little bit of a change is a lot in the diesel timing.
hey guys i called my injectionshop and he said he has the snap-on tester and said he would dynamicly time it for 55.00 for me. does that sound like a good deal? the reasion i didn't call him earlyer is because he normaly just listens to them and times them. but he said he will put the tester on it and time it for me.
thanks,
jimmy
