Oops. Yes I had you confused with this shop. He's about 50 miles SE from me.

Ever the gentleman Dan. I guess the big point missing in all of these posts is to recognize when a certain job does require a professional shop to do the work. I'm not about to build a bulletproof tranny at my house. But darn near anything else is either gonna get done here or screwed up here first.

Thanks all!
I'm sort-of comfortable turning a wrench-when I know what I'm turning. However as I mentioned in different threads, I'm still looking for the evaporator drain tube, and can't seem to get the radio out..... yeah - I got skillz....
I'm very visual - so seeing something done once usually gives me what I need to get it done. I can read a book and figure it out.
I think we're going to have the TC done, and have them look at the tranny while they're in there (no issues yet, but I won't mess with it, and they'll have it open anyway). As for the rest - I'll see what I can do with it. Expect lots of questions and pictures....
THANKS!!

My questions stem from just the sheer cost to do these recommendations. Do I suck it up, put it on the credit card, and go with it - paying the Nordstrom prices, or do I shop around or see about doing it myself? My knowledge is limited, although I'm willing to give it a shot - it doesn't help to have the questioning DH asking "Can you make the belt too tight? How do you know? What else could you have affected? It was running fine until you got in there...." ugh!
As we do use this truck (for the 5th wheel and everyday farm/property use) I need to be aware of down time.
I will have someone do the TC, I'm not about to start messing with transmissions - and I want someone who knows what they're looking at when they do. But- does it need to be done NOW, or can we wait and put the money into other systems?
So, my main question was/is, would you be willing to pay for the shop reputation, or would you do something different?
Osborn, if you are in reach of Seattle, get hold of Kwikkordead (Dan) and see if he'll check out your truck and give you a second opinion. $8000 is half the price of the truck; way too much to pay unless you are absolutely sure each item is needed. I didn't see anything in your posts to justify that kind of money.
