I have a 2001 PSD, auto, 373 rear end, 4" MBRP turbo back stainless, Edge Juice w/Attitude, Edge Evolution, and stage II intake. From time to time I pull a 10,000 lb. travel trailer and a couple of times on hard pulls have had to back out due to near-excessive EGTs (near 1350). Are there any other ways to reduce the EGTs?
De-tune your Edge or convert to a DP Tuner flip chip. Most programmers get their HP increases by advancing timing, hence higher EGT's. Jody's tunes actually call for more fuel and leave timing almost stock.
Westpsd is correct, a properly tuned psd is a key factor in keeping EGT's down. Jody's tunes are some of the most accurate around. I pull a 9000lb TT using Jody's more aggressive 80hp tune with no egt issues at all.Of course i have
a fair amount of mods to help like the 1.00 exhaust housing.

I, too, pull a 10k lb TT (5 wheel) but the only time I've had any issue with high EGTs was through the mountains in Colorado. The truck has so much torque on Jody's 40 HP tow tune that it would never shift out of OD, just pump fuel to keep the speed up even on some fairly steep hills. That's when I noticed EGT's hitting at 1200. I'd punch off the OD and go down to third and the EGT's would immediately drop.
I've got a 6.0 intercooler to go in to help with temps but really have had no problem with them on a lower fueled tune. I've never tried to tow in Jody's 80 HP tune but stick with the lower one.
i would also love to hear how to reduce the egts some more. i have the 4 inch, banks 6.0 intercooler, banks quick turbo (exhaust housing), power elbow, 430 gears, afe stage 2, and in stock tune i can still get over 1100. in the 20 tow 40 t0w 60 tow i have NO problem reaching max egts when towing especially up the hills?? when going up the passes i have 1/2 throttle left real easy but cant use it. yesterday up the back side of greenough hill i was towing my 10000 toy hauler at 73 mph od out 1200 egt boost 23-25 any more and egts would shoot up and the turbo was singin in the 40 tow mode. im overall happy with the mods but wish my egts werent so touchy i really have to keep an eye on them all the time in the hills. OH wife was following in her car and said everytime i would get on it a little on the pass i had black smoke comeing out can jody turn my fuel down a little to help this and the egts maybe?
I feel your pain! The same thing happens to me though my lowest tune is 40 hp tow. Going through mountain passes I hit 1200 easily with 23 lbs boost and speed dropping. That's when I dropped into third - up with rpms and boost and down with egts. But on the big hills I had to watch'em really closely. Normal driving, even towing, no problem. Just on the hills.
pastormike i bought the banks 6.0 intercooler thinking it was the real bad boy but i really didnt see much difference in egts i think i can go up the passes a liitle quicker (i think) seems i was able to hold around 65-67 on greenough before earlier in the year so i did get a few mph before hitting the egt redline. but you would think with the mods ive done i would have no egt issues whatso ever on the 40 tow. heck i go to the dunes with guys towing similar loads and they run the superchips on the 2nd setting i guess with no gauges exhaust intake or intercooler and they do just great so who knows.
Thanks for the quick response. I've got a 6.0 intercooler sitting in the garage waiting on a new tranny oil cooler. The stocker tubing interferes with the ic so I can't put it in. I was really hoping it would make a bigger difference.
I'll do it anyway since I have it and maybe it'll help a little bit. Thanks again.

Doesn't surprise me at all. Jody's tunes deliver the big HP numbers and are conservatively rated if u ask me. So with that in mind then your EGT's are going high unless you have the best dang mods to support that extra HP. Everything else with your motor MUST be flawless too...i.e...no boot leaks(maybe do a pressure check), no I/C leaks...etc.

nut ive had these same issues with my stock intercooler as well. truck has 55k and runs great idles great starts great pulls great just with all my mods listed my egts should be way way low if all the advertisements are correct espessially in stock tune?? heck i even replaced the hpop ipr icp just to get rid of the p1211 but it didnt i think jodys tunes call for to much fuel i guess i dont know.

Understood....u still have to eliminate some possible issues though,as i mentioned, to make sure your seeing the performance of all your current mods. I have an '02 too and tow with the 80 hp tune but don't task the motor as much as you do. Your larger exhaust housing is a step in the right direction. My '02 I/C isn't much smaller than the 6.0,although u do have Banks's I/C, so i wouldn't expect too much of a difference for my setup compared to the 6.0L I/C. I would go with a Spearco like JT's for an upgrade.
Cheaper alternative is water/meth injection. I would start with water only if u want to try this route. Anything else is going to cost $$$$$.
