i was looking at CAT_MAN_963 truck and ha has a long list of mods to his rig and i was wondering who would win if you put his truck against a 6.0 w/ only anftermarket chip added (and i just mean a normal one like hypertech or superchips & not like a jody tipton or one of the better one like some of you guys have)
best out of 5 races??
also why would cat_man's truck dyno a little over 300 hp after all those mods and a 6.0 has more than that stock but i have heard that they cant handle the mods
so who would win??
Apples and oranges. cat_man's power is being measured at the rear wheels - the power rating of the 6.0 from the factory is measured at the crank. There is upwards of a 25% power loss between crank and wheels.
Just do a search in the 7.3 forums for "problems", and you will most likeley only get "CPS" and "MPG". Do a search in 6.0 for "problems", and you will see re-flash, oil leak, head gasget, VV Turbo, turbo replacement, "postal at the service dept of the dealership", etc. The 6.0 is a smaller motor with more power squeezed out of it, if you tune it, you have an excellent chance of walking home. Some people have 'em tuned and they live. I have not heard of many 7.3's blowing up due to tune.
To the end of a quarter mile? Probably the chipped 6.0, but I don't think I'd be willing to put money on it.7.3.
Well I hope to clear this little matter up soon!! My rig will be on the dyno this coming weekend, and hopefully at the track the following weekend!
What does a stock 6.0 run the 1/4 in anyway?? I know a guy from work that has a Superchips tuner in his 6.0, that swears he runs 15.0 and 15.1's with just the tuner?? He's one of those "fish story" kinda guys though....
Cat, you should easily be into the 14's with your setup. Lock that baby in 4 HI, power brake it and spool the boost to about 20psi before launch, then just let it rip. 14's shouldn't be a problem.

Edit: My money would definately be on Cat!!
Wonder How many of those 20lbs of boost launches in 4 Hi the drivetrain will handle?
When i first got my truck I was a little dissapointed that it wouldnt leave rubber from a stop,But I didnt know turbos back then.. I did a 12lb of boost launch once after I learned a little and there was No such thing as Traction in 2wd Hi Matter of fact I think the Black marks are still there, years later
My son loved it,,Not sure my tires did though!! Once it grabbed, there was some serious pulling goin on. That can not be good on the drivetrain..
I wouldn't do too many of those launches unless your trans is built. And I mean, the whole thing, not just the VB. Enough launches like that and something will eventually break. I've read of everything from diff gears to torque converters failing. If you wanna play, eventually you're gonna pay.
Luke, I got no reason not to believe you. I didn't know the 6.0 could be that fast. Still not going to give up my 7.3 for a 6.0.
Check this one out guys! I currently own a 2000 7.3 psd. I work for a large corporation out in West side Albuquerque. This enables me to have a huge pool of friends with various trucks. Well we have a an obstacle course out in the west side desert we like to take out all our new trucks to. The first 200 yards of this obstacle course is a stretch of sandy hill not really to steep. My 7.3 climbs that with out an problem. I've had guys in there 6.0's not even make it a 1\4 of the way up. It's devistated them when my truck will drive right through their 3 ft deep ruts. I've had new dodge 2500's, chevy 2500 and none of them climb as well as my stock 7.3. The only mod's I've done are my 2 inch leveling kit and my bfg 35's. The only vehicle we haven't tried is a new toyota tundra. How do we explain this about the old 7.3????? Because of this I'm keeping my 7.3!
