Crafsman gasoline powered generator

I have a Craftsman gasoline powered generator model # 580.327140 and perused the Sears website and the manual is no longer in print or available. Please help me with suggestions on maintenence, hours between oil changes, oil type and viscosity. I found a parts list, but no manual.

At the rental store, everything gets frequent oil changes, but most of that stuff is used at least weekly.
As a general rule of thumb- once the oil goes from honey colored to a dark maple syrup color, change it. If it looks like used diesel oil, change it, run for ten minutes, then change again.
I run 10w30 in all the B&S, Honda, and Kohler engines. If it's hot out, or you'll be running it for a few days, only shutting it down to refuel, then you can run 15w40 diesel rated oil. Don't use that in the winter, though, it doesn't flow very well.

Identify what engine is in use then research it (google).

5W30 is fine for year-round use.

OCI of 50 hours is pretty safe if you can't find exact info for your motor.

Have you tried going to the engine manufacturer's web site. If it's a Briggs & Stratton for example, usually list series of model engine one can download. Will need serial number, or something to referrence the engine. Had simular problem with gas generator and had to use model of same/simular spec's.

Ihave a Sears model #580.326980 that has a Craftsman 8 Hp engine which was made by Tecumseh. It was purchased new in July 1993. The Maintenance manual says..."Change oil after first two hour of operation. Change oil every 25 hours thereafter. If you are using your generator under dirty or dusty conditions, or in extremely hot weather, change oil more often." Under "Engine Specifications" oil recommendations is A. SAE 30 oil above 32 deg F (Or SAE10w-30) B. SAE 5W-30 below 32 deg F (or SAE 10W). Hope this helps.
