Question Question on EGT & boost sensor installation

I have questions about the installation of a boost & EGT sensor that I saw on another website. For the boost sensor, they drilled & tapped the intake elbow by the throttle body plate. I like the idea of putting the sensor there since its post turbo & I can remove the elbow from the truck and not have to worry about metal chips in the intake. The EGT sensor was drilled & tapped dry, no grease, in the exhaust manifold from below with the engine running. With the engine running the metal chips are suppose to be blown out and they say there is "little chance of anything getting into the turbo". My question is, does this sound right and if not where and how should I install the sensors. Since 2 turbos have bit the dust in 15k miles, I don't what to mess one up myself and definitely don't want to go back to the dealer again. This site has sure helped me out with problems that I have had so far on my 6.0 and for that I thank you guys. Any advice you can give me would be great. Thanks!

I would take the exhaust manifold off but that is just me as that way there is 0 chance for any chips to still be in there. I have heard that method of leaving the truck runnning also and have never heard anyone say it didn't work but again it is just piece of mind to remove the manifold and drill and tap it.

Thanks for the info on taking the exhaust manifold off. Never have tried it. How big/long a job is it and I guess I will have to replace the gasket.

i drilled and tapped the intake elbow. this is extremely easy. four bolts hold it on and the intercooler tube. i tapped it on the back side when looking at the engine from the front and about half way up. it takes literally 15min from removal to installation of elbow. just make sure all shavings are obviously removed before reinstalling. and make sure of the torque you torque them back down to as it is aluminum and could strip easy. the egt is a pita IMHO. and there is no way i would attempt witht he engine running its hot enough already. i drilled and tapped it dry no grease and with completion of each i used a shop vac to vacuum out shavings as well as a magnet. but the tapping part is no fun be sure you have a very good tap (not made in china) or you will regret it when your knuckles bust up against something. before drilling crawl under the truck and see where you can turn the tap completely around without interference and mark it. then if the drill fits as it should thats how i placed my hole. then after i was done i started and let the engine idle for about 5min to let all the remaining shavings in case there is any in there its best its at idle when they pass through it.

after shop vac i seriously dobut there is any shavings left in there it does a very good job. but grease i would think would allow shavings to remain in there even after shop vac'ing and then when the exaust heast up and melts the grease that would allow the trapped shavings to go through the turbo but that's just my opinion.
