I have an opportunity to buy a 62 Ford 4 x4. The truck appears to be original, has been sitting for a while with rust in the normal places such as the bed, cab floor panel and cab. But not bad and definately restorable. Looks like a fun truck to restore and a 62 4 x 4 is a rare find in this area.
The owner wants $2500 for this truck. Is this price reasonable for a truck of this type.
After playing with old trucks for a while, I wouldn't pay more than about $300.00 for one as described. If it could be made worth $40,000.00 when restored that would be a different matter.
Spend $10,000.00 on it and bring it up to cream puff status and I doubt you could get $6,000.00 for it. IMHO
I don't know about VA., but in Iowa I wouldn't pay that much for it unless it was rust free or had a brand new drivetrain or something of the sort. And I figure any roadworthy truck is worth $500.
While a custom cab 4x4 is fairly rare, 2500 for a back yard queen is a little steep. If it was licenced and driven it would be worth more, but probably still not 2500, at least to most people. But if you really want it, go try to talk him down some.
