Ok I've recently been hearing about these "cut-outs" in people's exhausts, which apparently can be opened or closed on command. Anyone run them? I heard a clip of a truck with them closed then opened and liked the change. What exactly are they and how do I get them?
do a forum search on "exhaust cut outs" and a google search for buying, pricing.
cut outs connect to your exhaust, can be anywhere really, usually before the cat. Theres one pipe that hooks right into your exhaust, and another pipe, or exit which, when open, the "air" will come through both stock and the exit you just opened. Close that exit, it runs through your regualr exhaust. A lot of people buy them for racing, or just to be loud. Havent heard very many good reports of them though
The manual ones, with butterfly nuts, eventaully will give you an exhaust leak. If you get one of those, you'll eventaully need to get a thick gasket for it
the cable ones, the same thing. Gaskets are that great, starts leaking.
I havent heard anything on the electronic ones, but you'll fork out good money for them.
ranger there are a few different ones out there. what they are is a y pipe in the exhaust with one part going to your regular ehaust system and the other the wide open air. some you have to unscrew the cut outs. there are ones that all you do is hit a switch on the dash(or inconspicus place) and the use an electric siloniod to open them. i belive you can get them from jegs or summitt maybe a few others. i know they have the manual ones but not for sure on the electric ones. if im not mistaken the capt'n has them give ivan a yell if he dont chime in.
Nah I don't need electric nothing, no reason to spend the money.
If I put them in front of the cat, would I pass inspection? I mean technically, it's still sealed (somewhat) when they're closed, right? I'd really like to get the sound from before the cats mixed with the muffler sound.
if you do this, get the manual ones. If you think about it, a cable one will easily start an exhaust leak, and you'll notice the leak, esp. if its before everything
I was definetly getting the manual one, going to put it pre-muffler as that pipe is gettin' pretty worn out anyways, I figure I'll just cut that whole pipe out, measure a new one to fit, and put the cut out there. That way it'll definetly pass inspection, too.
