I have a '03 F250, diesel, 4x4, with 47K miles. When I make sharp left or right turns I feel the tires "hop". I don't fell this while driving straight, only in sharp turns. Could this be the differential clutches needing servicing with only 47K miles? I wonder if adding any friction modifier alone would help or does anyone else have any thoughts?
BTW all ball joints and link ends appear OK.
One or both hubs could still be locked, causing what you are feeling. Verify that they are unlocked by reaching under the truck and turning the axles by hand.
Do you have ESOF or manual hubs?
I just went through this.
Jack up the front of your truck, use jack stands and turn spin the wheels, if either one or both axles turn than your hubs are not unlocking.
I'll find the thread on mine and post it.
Your hubs are actuated by vacuum ,the transfercase is a electric shift motor.
Before jacking up follow the persons advice try to turn the axles behind the knucle to see if the are free .If not ,could be 2 problems hubs are binding or your front needle bearings are going away and need replaced.
