Transmission help

Where is the best place to get a transmission filter for a 4r100 out of a 2003 f250 7.3. I read the articles on how to change the fluid and it doesn't seem like a hard thing to do. Any tips or advice on changing the fluid and filter. thanks

i just went to my local auto parts store. i got a WIX one in mine now. do not use the cork gasket that they may give you in the box, the stock rubber-over-steel one is far superior and can be reused. be careful, alot of juice will fall out when you pull out the filter.

I had a couple of bad experiences with Wix once. I had a 700R4 trans and the filter was kinda loose. Tried anotehr one and it was loose too. Tried a 3rd and this time it fit on. I don't know. Maybe it was a couple of bad ones but that kinda got me nervous after that. I heard they were a good filter but when it wouldn't push in and stay, it made me wonder.

Well, it might have been a General Motors machining error. You know that they're not too worried about machining tolerances....heck, you even have to shim their starters.

When you change your fluid remember to pull the O-ring. It normaly sticks inside the trans just take a scrib and pull it out. Just dont scratch your trans. The filter will go in ALOT better when you pull that O-ring out. It dosent like to have 2 in there trust me. It wont go on to good so remember to pull it out.

Maybe but every filter before and after that is fine. Yes I did remove the ring myself so I know there isn't 2 rings in the hole.

Drive the best, service the rest.

I suppose if I worked for Ford, I'd drive a Chevy just because ignorance is bliss.
