400 variant's

What are the different 400's? Car's vs. truck's, 4x4 v.s 4x2? I know the oil pan's are different. The 4x4 has a different fuel pump then the 4x2. Why are they different????

As far as I know, there are no real differences other than sump locations and dipstick locations. I'm willing to bet that the only differences in the fuel pumps are the hose fittings, not the pumps themselves

right, the fuel pump "ends"may point in different directions for crossmember clearances. I believe the later 70's blocks got a thicker casting for one of the bearings in the trucks....351M atleast, so the 400 probably had the same.
