Summit Headers

Has anyone used summit headers for the 400? There cheap so I was wondering if they hold up okay and if they fit good?

Mine fit fine on my 79 f250 4x4...they dopnt hit anything, and drop right below / before the t-case crossmember. Maybe i just got lucky, but they work fine, dont touch anything, still give me room to mess with the starter. The only problem i had was messing with the oil dipstick tube a little bending to get it to run thru the headers.

For the money, theyre pretty good....

The first set of Summit headers I had lasted about 3 years before they rusted away. They did fit good and I had no problems with exhaust leaks.

I just put a second set of Summit headers on my truck for two reasons:
They are cheaply priced.
I thought that they would bolt right up to my exhaust.

This new set did not bolt up to my exhaust and they seem to leak around the head flanges more often.

I wish now that I would of went on and bought a good set of coated headers the first time.

I got the engine from Tim Meyers to put in my 78 4x4 150. With the custom oil pan, the headers on drivers side was almost touching the oil pan. I stopped at summit and looked over the headers they had in stock and was impressed with the headman coated header. They fit between the oil pan and differential much better than the Summits did, flange is thicker, coating looks great even after install! Left side pretty easy, right side, starer comes off, motor mount and stand must come off. My truck is fairly rusty and all bolts did come out pretty easy.

For te money. I would go with the Headman coated,,, around $260, If you need a part#, I can dig it out. Good Luck
