Wondering if you ever found the solution to your shift problem.
I have a 96 F150 not shifting past what seems like 2nd. At 50mph its at about 3k rpms.
Did you ever find a fix?

if not, disconnect the battery for 10 minutes.

computer will have to relearn stuff so you need a short drive to do this.
It does not take 10 minutes to discharge the system and reset the computer. Just leave the parking lights on and disconnect the negative battery cable. Go back and shut the lights off. Iin this short period of time every capacitor is drained and computer is reset. There are several other ways to do this but I use this one the most.

Sorry to dig up an old thread but I'm having about the same issue. My '89 F-250 7.5L with what I think is an E4OD (Dosent look like any C6 Ive ever seen anyways, still need to count the pan bolts,) dosent seam to shift into overdrive. I dont think its mechanical, it kicks like a mule when it shift from what I think is 2-3, but then stays there, It really seams like there should be another gear, I'm at almost 3k RPMs at 50mph. I'm gonna take it down this weekend and get the codes pulled. I noticed when I was looking at it the other day, there is a cable that runs from the TB to an electronic switch right by the shift linkage, which I think is a kick-down switch, is there a way to test this my self?

I was told the transfer was locked in 4x4 low so I thought no problem? But after checking the transfer, I was able to shift it out of 4x4 into 2w/h so I thought I just made a heck of a deal?! WRONG!... tranny goes into 1rst gear no problems, but then it reaches about 10-15 mph & engine just revs to around 3500 & then Bam! shifts to 2nd, same thing again 25-30 mph & Bam, hits 3rd, & thats as far as it will shift, 45 mph & tach is reading 40-4500rpm's I tried letting off the gas thinking it would shift but it just acted like engine brake was on? OK, so replace MLPS, Same thing, no change at all? Next I removed the plug wire from the OSS {output shaft sensor} Now the tranny shifts 1-2-3 Hard? Next I removed the plug from the VSS on the rear axle, No change there, makes no difference if it's connected or not? Also after I first start the truck, the check engine lite comes on real dim after about 10-15 sec, then after 25-30 sec. the rear ABS lite comes on bright? All the lites work on the truck & the brake lites aren't on untill I apply the brakes? I don't know if this is enough info for anyone to go on, but I'm hoping someone out here in fordland can help me?
