Ive got a very tired '65 f100. I've been offered a 1977 f100 as a donor truck I want to swap out the engine, tranny, rear end, Ibeams, power brakes and power steering. Will this be a "bolt on" job, or do I have a headache ahead of me???
I agree with John! Using the 77 will get you the wider track rear, with bigger rear brakes, front disk brakes, powersteering, and the fuel tank in the rear. For the most part swapping the sheetmetal seems pretty straight forward. There is some difference in the frame length. Some trim the rear of the frame and "cheat" the rear axle forward. Personally I'd cut the frame and weld it back at the correct length and add a short 18 inch box plate. This would allow using the more common long bed frames. I believe moving styleside fenders to a later bed is also possible. This may resolve some of the frame length issues. For some it is easier to do mechanical work verses sheetmetal. You decide.
