1989 B2: EEC fuse keeps blowing

My friend's truck (1989 B2) died today. Had no spark when we tested. 30amp maxi fuse blown in relay box. Put in new fuse. Still would not start. Fuse pops every time. What would cause this? Did a search on EEC fuse but did not come up with anything.

If you remove the relay does the fuse still blow?

Got a wiring diagram?

If its wired the same as my 87 the EEC relay splices to all the solid red wires under the hood.

If the fuse doesnt blow with the relay removed, theres a short to ground on one of those red wires.

> 30amp maxi fuse blown in relay box

FWIW: On a stock vehicle there are not "maxi" fuses. Maxi fuses are the big 1" ones. There is no relay box, though they might be under a shield on the right hand side under the hood. The fuse box is under the dash on the driver's side.

Take the EEC relay with you when replacing it to make sure the "color" and pin out is the same as the one you are buying.

As 87 XLT mentioned, check the "relay splices" aka fusible links coming off the starter relay.

The fuse that is blowing it is a 1" maxi fuse. It is stock. If you've never seen these on any stock vehicle....well I'm not sure what to say. But thanks for the reply.

87 XLT: Haven't removed relay, but I will try that. Thanks for the help
