I just bought a 2002 Ford Explorer XLS. It just has the regular AM/FM cassette player. I noticed the radio stays on after I turn the vehicle off and even stays on after the key is taken out. Surely it isn't supposed to do this. Anyone know what might be wrong?

 

I bet it goes off when you open the door. It can stay on for up to ten minutes unless the door is opened

 

I just ran out and tried it. The radio stays on when the door is opened. I have to push the power button to turn it off. Also I noticed the dome light dioesn't come on when I open the door.

 

I noticed that it takes the radio almost exactly 10 minutes to go off. I also noticed that the dome light comes on when I remove the key. It also takes 10 minutes to go off. The steering wheel does not lock when I remove the key. Any ideas what the problem could be?

 

Could it be the ignition switch? Anyone?

 

You said no dome light when you open driver door.
The switch is in door latch, give a good spray with WD40.
I go thru this every rain just life i guess.

Try opening pass door to see if light come on and radio goes out.
Driver door gives me most trouble.

Hi. I get no dome light when opening any of the doors and the radio stays on for 10 minutes no matter which door I open. Also the steering wheel doesn't lock.
