Gear Ratio

I have a 94 f-150 with a inline 6 4x4. I need to get a new set of gears because mine are going to grenade soon. I want to put 3.73 gears in it. Is this worth putting that gear ratio in with that motor? Will I have more low end take off? Also what else do I need to know? I know its a ford 8.8 inch rear end. I also have to get gears for the front as its 4x4. What do I need to know what I need for that? I also know I need a installation kit. My biggest worry its getting all the splines and all the other information correct. Can someone give me a link or someone who knows exactly what I need? Thanks.

Would this be worth getting?

If it has 3.55 gears right now, then you wont get that big of a difference with 3.73's.

are you planning on running larger tires. what is your current tire size? Gears are something you will need professionally installed so let them worry about all the little stuff. all you need is what gear ratio you want and if any lockers are wanted as well.

if you plan on running 33's figure a 4.10 ratio. for 35's 4.56. and since you have OD tranny getting the gears setup now for larger tires later wont be a big deal. the cost of having this done makes it hard to do again if you know what i mean.

IDK what it is right now. Its a inline six with a ford 8.8. Im not worried about installation because my gf's brother is a mechanic and he builds hot rods. I just was thinking there was a higher then 3.55. If it is 3.55 then I would go with 4.11's. Someone know what I have for a ratio?

look on your rear or front axle for a tag. it will say what ratio you have.

If you are not running larger tires than that on it, you are wasting your money, IMO. You won't see much of a difference going from 3.55 to 3.73.

But you might have 3.08's in there - we need to find out what your current ratio is.

I also have to do the front. I live up the road from a local salvage yard. I might see if they have a posi rear end with 3.73 or 4.10's. But do u think its worth the jump?

you will feel a big difference with the 3.73. My friend had a 300ci in a 2x4 with a 4spd manual. I'm not sure what ratio he had in thier but he was turning alot of rpm doing 70mph. I wouldn't recommend going with a higher ratio if that's your case

You won't find a limited slip axle in a junkyard that works and has either a 3.73 or 4.10 ratio. Those ratios are rare, and the limited slip clutches are worn out by the time they hit the boneyard.

Going from 3.08 to 3.73 will be a big jump - you'll notice a big difference in power. Whether or not you should go that low depends on whether or not you have OD. If you have a 94 truck, you should have overdrive, so 3.73's will work for you. Even 4.10 isn't that low with overdrive.

I do have OD What would be my top speed for 3.73 and 4.10, I might just go to me salvage yard and see if they have good gears, then buy an install kit. My gf brother also works at a shop and can prob get the gears for cheap. I also need the the front end gears as its 4x4. If I can get the gears for cheap, and the install kit, I can save myself a ton of money. Im not really worried about doing smoke shows, its more of having a lot more grunt low end. The truck has to be pushing at least 275 low end torque, but I sure as hell dont feel it. It takes like 12 secs to get to 65mph.
