Unhappy Just washed engine now no ignition

I can't believe this. My first post is a call for help! Just got an 01' 7.3 F250 crew cab 4x4 short bed 62k. Runs beautiful. Just bucket washed the engine compartment and lightly rinsed. Now no dash lights no ignition no start. Everything electrical works, engine turns over but no start. What gives??? I need to drive it to work in te morning!!!!!

I'm confused...you said no dash lights and no ignition, but you say everything electrical works?????

If all of your lights and radio comes on and she TRIES to turn over, I would check your batteries and cables. Many times, hard start issues on these trucks trace back to a bad connection on battery, bad battery, bad battery cables, or gunked up terminals. You may have accidentally bumped a cable or something while you were in there. A diesel needs both batteries to start. She will try to turn over, lights will come on, but she wont.

If you have the tools, check your electrical output from each battery.

If its not the batteries/cables/terminals, check CPS.

I mean radio, door dinger, headlights, starter, all work. Dash has no electric. No lights at all when key is turned. Starter cranks the engine but nothing is registering on the tach.

Batteries are the place to start. If they are properly connected with no gummy terminals and good battery cables, you can start looking elsewhere....

Get a wire brush and clean your battery terminals. You can buy terminal brushes at just about any auto parts store. Get some baking soda and water to remove any "whitish" gook you may see. Reconnect your cables. If your battery cables look worn or torn, those may be the culprit as well.

I've had one experience with a wet alternator getting "supercharged" and blowing up a battery due to high amperage, but since you havent been able to get it to start since you washed it, this can't be the case.

Anyway, always start with the simplest culprit..in this case the batteries. SOme of the other guys may have some other ideas...

Checked the batteries. Terminals very clean, batteries are strong. Its like some unplugged the computer. No gauges, no warning lights that you get when your turn on the ignition, no wait to start light. Gauge pod is dead.....All the fuses in the cab and under the hood are ok. When I turn the key to ignition on all I hear is one relay click under the hood.

Did you disconnect your batteries before you tested the charge?

I am thinking fuse box relay maybe? Perhaps glow plug relay from what I have read, but I doub't this would cause your guages to go dead. If you hear a "click" sound when you go to start I believe that is the sound of the GPR relay working...

I am hoping some of the "experts" will chime in on this one....starting to sound like an electrical connection problem. Perhaps some of the fuses got water in around them. Perhaps you can try pulling all fuses and reseating them.

Would cps stop all the gauges and lights. Everything on instrument panel is dead every light and every gauge. Can the cps be checked or tested? Where is it located?

You may want to check your fuses in you Power Distribution Box under the hood. I think there are several fuses and relays that could cause you problem.

Pulled all the fuses in cab and out no luck there. Pulled all relays in cab and in box underhood plus the two little boxes near that. Nothing was wet and they all had old dirt/dust on them so no water got in there. Still nothing. If cps doesn't have anything to do with warning lights/gauges then that is out as well. Getting very frustrated. My son and I pushed it back to the end of the driveway so my wife can get out for work. that damn thing is heavy!! Talked to mechanically inclined friend who has an 02. Suggested swapping the ignition relay with another one. Guess I'll try that.

Hmmmmm, went from a perfectly good Dodge to this Ford, now I'm wondering.................

this sounds very interesting. try this. disconnect both batteries. then disconnect the processor connector and check for water contamination. clean and dry well. cant remember if 01 year model has integrated relay for cluster inside processor or not but it is worth a shot.

I'll look past the Dodge comment for now and see if I can help you. I still think it is a fuse or relay. Just because the fuse panel is dry the fuses can still blow due to water shorting out a wire somewhere. The box under the hood holds the fuse for the PCM and Ignition relay. Could you possibly loosened a harness while cleaning, possibly one of the main one at the power distrubution box?
