I started wiring the 50 F1 after a long period of nothing done on it; I am having problems with getting ignition to starter. The harness and 5.0L are out of a 90 Crowne Victoria. I started tracing the wiring today; diagrams show the battery wiring being hot all times at the ignition switch, but I don't have voltage there. I do have power at the EEC but not at the fuse panel. Does anyone know if there is a relay (EEC or ignition) between the fuse panel and ignition that needs to be energized before there is power to the fuse panel and ignition switch ?

It's been awhile since I installed my '86 Lincoln Mk VII 5.0 and I had help with the wiring...
In anycase there are at least 2 relays. If memory serves me well one is to the electronic fuel pump .
Where is the solenoid for the starter?
53Merc;
The solenoid is located on the passenger fender apron; the ignition lead goes throught the neutral safety switch; then to the ignition switch.
The hot(yellow) seems to route through a relay first (EEC?) then splices to the fuse panel and ignition. I have voltage at one side of the relay.
This is EFI and the fuel pump itself is routed through the inertia switch but I don't think it affects the ignition, other than no fuel if inertia switch is not closed.
Here's the starter diagram for a '90 Crownvic
I always thought the fuse box got it's power from the alternator wire harness and ignition switch got it's power also from that too. Hope this helps some.
BTW I got an '87 Mustang 5.0L SEFI on my 302 now although it's not fully wired yet.
thanks for your reply; I did more investigation today and found the source of one of my problems. The fuse panel feeds from the front wiring harness, that I had not connected to battery +. Once connected my fuse box is hot; EEC, WOT relays kick in but still no juice at starter solenoid. I checked continuty through the neutral switch and it is good, wil have to lok deeper tomorrow. I'm hoping to eventually swap out current 5.0 for Mustang HO.

Do you think it could be the relay? Mine have gone twice, so I stock up when they're on sale at Princess Auto.
Do you have the same schematic for an '86 Lincoln Mk VII ?
