converter not locking up??
2000 f250 7.3 has 3 clutch converter heavy duty rebuild 100,000 miles ago.
been haveing tranny temp problems for a while now. just in the last couple of days its gotten worse. driving down the highway its not locking the converter, i can tell because when i used to tap the brakes the rpms would jump up about 200 rpm(while still keeping the go pedal steady) so my temps are higher than normal on the highway. now as soon as i get in town the temp will shoot from 180 to 210 it stays here untill going over 45mph. (used to never get above 140) also no flashing SES or tranny overdrive lights
so i changed the tranny filter flushed all the fluid out reversed blew the cooller, and put in a new bypass valve on the cooler lines at the tranny. i was thinking maybe that was causeing my higher temps before the converter wasnt locking up.
now the questions were should i start looking for problems, the converter and all tranny internals have 100,000 miles on them. when i had the pan down tonight there was no junk in the pan it was clean as new, magnets had usual small stuff, nothing major or bad. this was the 2nd time dropping the pan since last rebuild, the clutch packs i could see from looking up all looked great no heat discoloration on any moving parts that were visable. the fluid was darker than new fluid but not bad. i flush the trany fluid every 15,000 miles
so is it possible for the lock up clutches to just go bad? it was at the time of rebuild very expensive, but i've pulled lots of heavy loads in the city and highway. so i don't think it owes me anything. what do you guys suggest i do now? any help and suggestions are greatly apreciated. thanks a bunch D.J.
