If you're going to do it yourself, try and get the old one off first. That way you can match it up and get any additional parts at the same time. Seperating it from the tailpipe can be a pita unless you have a torch.

Yeah I have a 98 mountaineer and i'm looking into a flowmaster, and I was just told to get it professionally done because its going to be a b*tch in modification because you have to switch the cat's flange is something?

Just more noise. Be careful you don't make it "too free flowing" and loose low end torque. I know because it happened to me on my Bronco. I put on a Thrush CVX cat back system and ended up with less low end power, more high speed power, and more noise.
