I would appreciate it if someone could give me a quick answer on how to remove my power mirror switch on the driver's side door???? I want to see if it's getting power as suddenly neither of my mirrors work. I'm assuming something pops off.
Does it pop off from the door vinyl or the piece above this on the actual switch?????
Also, if you can point me to where the ground is for this, that is the other possible failure.
You have to pull the door panel off. If you get a Haynes manual there is a wiring diagram for the mirrors.
I had problems with the mirrors in my 94. It turned out to be a couple of bad wires that ran from the door to the area under the dash and behind a kick panel.
Don't forget to check the fuse. Definitely overlooked sometimes. If not I just read about wiring grounding out where the harness passes through the door.
My 95 all of a suddenly did the same thing. If I fold my mirror it starts working again. I changed the switch first, but it was the wiring behind the mirror. Only 3 screws and a small nut behind the lock and windows buttons hold the panel on.
Also check your wiring that goes through the rubber sleeve in the door well. I had several of those wires to break from normal wear and tear and had to rewire them.
I would check the fuse first, then the wiring behind the mirror before ripping off the panel.
In case you need to do that, it's just a few screws and plastic retainers. Make sure you use new retainers (available by the tons at the local autopart stores) or the panel will rattle after you put it back together.
As for the manuals, download one from www.fordcds.com. It's a lot more comprehensive than the Haynes or Chilton manuals, which are pretty much useless.
Thanks everyone for the help. I took it to a friend of mine and here was the problem. The wiring in the harness was burned and shorting. It was past the door and inside of the car behind a panel. Switch was fine.
