Tonight as I was backing out of my garage, with my 2009 F-150, ....I got a bit too close to the right side of the garage door, and the mirror caught just enough to pop the mirror itself, out of the housing.
I got out of the truck, and picked up the mirror; it was not broken or obviously damaged.
I looked at the back of the mirror, and the housing that it came out of, and it looked to me like I might be able to pop it back in. So I pressed it by the middle of the mirror, and it seemed to click back in place.
The wife and I then drove to our dinner location and home again. The adjuster worked and the mirror did not "wiggle."
Question: Are these mirrors DESIGNED to be snapped back into place, or did I just luck out for the moment, and it will eventually pop out on me?
I know that the power adjustable mirrors are assembled with the glass popped into place last. There are six or so "fingers" on a plastic backer piece glued on the inside of the mirror that grab the outsides of the round power adjuster mechanism inside the housing. If none of the fingers broke, then you lucked out. If one or two were damaged, it's likely to fall off again unless you can glue it more securely with something like a silicone adhesive.
............ There are six or so "fingers" on a plastic backer piece glued on the inside of the mirror ................. If none of the fingers broke, then you lucked out. ...........
Yeah, it seemed that's what I saw, although I didn't take a close look at the "fingers" to see how many there were or if any looked broken. I hope I DID "luck out!"
Took a 3 hour ride to Rhode Island today (one way) to visit family. No vibration, no disconnect of the mirror that came off...........I guess I truly DID "luck out."
