I have a 2004 EB Expedition with 26,000 miles and one of the back leather seats is just coming apart. It looks like the leather is thin and shredded, some of the leather is already gone. I seen this happen before but in a truck that was 15 years old. Anyone hear of this or had this trouble? Think I got a shot at a warranty issue? The other seats are fine, just one back seat.
the expy leather seats have been a rather continual problem since the model was introduced. first gen expys had many leather surface issues- enough that many were repaired in a recall long over.
it is sad that ford seems unwilling or incapable of providing higher quality leather surfaces on vehicles in this lofty price range. that said, you should look for satisfaction from your dealer. a search of the archives should turn up numerous complaints re poor quality leather. this will demonstrate to your dealer that it is not isolated and that ford in the past has in fact stepped up to repair.
for your surfaces which are holding up, do treat them carefully. periodic cleaning and treatment with good quality leather care products will help ensure longer life. no pens, markers, tools or sharp objects sticking out of pockets can also ensure no punctures or other damage.
i am the second owner of my '97. sadly, my drivers seat cushion, particularly around the seams. looks very poor- as if the color was coming off the leather seating material. detracts from the rest of the vehicle which for all intents and purposes is a low mileage garage queen!
I have a seam starting to split on driver seat. Yes the leather is very thin for such an expensive vehicle. I wonder if the Navigtator has better leather?
Admittedly my '03 has 100K+ miles, so warranty claim is out of the question. I'm considering stitching up the seam and swapping the seat cover with passenger seat cover (I think they are same).
Promptly schedule a dealer visit and if possible go in there personally to do it. At this time you can show the service writer what is wrong. The warranty begins on the date the vehicle was first placed into service; if you bought an early 04 new in 03 then it's time to move on this.

LEFT AND RIGHT DO HAVE DIFFERENT PART NUMBERS, so them are not the same. PM me your vin number and i'll quote you for a new seat cover.
Nope the Nav seats are no better---had to have my drivers seat and back replaced under warantee---not the seat is splitting on the side---the dealer says it's how I exit the vehicle---ya last time I spend $50K for a Lincoln!
Just for everyones info I did take mine in and they said they would replace the leather seat covers for the back seat and it was covered under Ford TSB 05-12-08 for XLT and EB built after 12/1/03. I picked it up today and just the bottom of the rear seat was replaced, the backs are still cracked and seperated as the bottom was. Dealer said the TSB only covered the BOTTOM. Told him I will not accept that and thr service manager will deal with me on Monday. Ill keep everyone updated.
For everyone out of warranty the Company www.Katzkin.com is not a bad option. I have used them for other vehicles and found their product to be durable and good value for the cost.
White-Expy: Did the TSB coverage apply even if you were out of warranty? I'm just shy of two years buy I'm way beyond the 36K (51K now)? One of my rear seats (bottom) is definitely shot. I'd love to get it replaced on their dime. My Expy is a 2004 EB built in June 2004.
No the dealer told me it had to be under warranty to have a TSB repaired for free. It kind of stinks FORD knows there is a problem they should fix it at any time the way I see it.
I now have the leather seating but need new foam. Any ideas?
Thanks
did your truck come this way? if so send me the vin number so I can see what the interior code is and i'll quote you for the seat cushions. only way to look up in the Ford parts catalog.
I have a 2000 Eddie Bauer that came with leather BUT I have purchased a set of Roush leathers that are designed to fit the CLOTH seats. Therefore, I need the foam for the cloth seats on a 2000 Expedition. After I found this out, I purchased an entire set of BACK seats on eBay but have not been succesfull finding the front captains in cloth. Is this clear as mud or can you help?
