anyone painted over rust bullet?

One of the options I'm looking at is painting over Rust Bullet as a primer. Any one have experience with it? They say it is a good adhesion promoter.

Just scuff it up and paint away...RB is the best primer you can use over sand blasted metal. I think I've got a good combo for new metal or rusted metal. Its Picklex first then rust bullet. I think its much better than just rust bullet...

On my 1978 F250 Crewcab frame, I had it sandblasted, then sprayed on Rust Bullet then topcoated with Napa's Chassis Black color. I love the Rust Bullet product!! Good adhesion promoter if you spray on the top coat BEFORE Rust Bullet cures. If it cures out, then you will have to sand/scuff the RB. On my frame, I didn't want to spend the time scuffing, so I topcoated while the Rust Bullet was still tacky. The topcoat has actually bonded with the Rust bullet - you can't scratch it off!!! Was a good method of doing the frame. Whatever topcoat you use, just be sure to spray on BEFORE RB cures. If not, then start scuffing and paint should stick too.

Are we talking about frame work or exposed finish side of body panels and does it make any difference?

I'll be doing both. I should get to doing the inside of the cab next weekend. The outside of the cab may be a month or so yet and the frame probably not until spring. Rust bullet claims that their product wouild be considered a mid level primer with excellent adhesion. If you don't top coat right away you have to scuff it up.

tastyklair - save your self some work and topcoat when RB is still tacky if you can. RB cures like concrete and it will take some considerable effort to scuff by hand. If you don't scuff the RB, the paint will not stick. To remove RB from things that you don't want it on ----- you have to grind it off. I got some on my hands when I was cleaning my spray gun with xylene and i wore this stuff for 3-4 days!!! Otherwise, I love the product. Good Luck!

As per rust bullets directions I would be carefull which top coat you use before the rb has cured. It dries by absorbing moisture you don't wanna mess with that. As said above it may work with certain paints although I woudn't do it, it sands real easy. I'm on my 6th gallon of the stuff..

99f350sd what do you use to scuff up the rust bullet?? by hand or machine? just curious. seems like a lot of work. My case was I had a frame from a 78 crewcab that showed rust pitting after I had it sandblasted (which is good all the rust is gone). Then when I went to spray on RB, it still left a porous, rough surface (the rust pitts). It would have been next to impossible to get down into all the pores to get the RB scuffed so my top coat would stick. That is why I sprayed on the Chassis Black when RB was a little tacky yet (couldn't pick up any on your fingers when you touched it). Think it worked just fine.

I think 150 grit paper you don't have to get into all the cracks thats impossible. make sure you use 2 coats or more of rust bullet..The chasis black may have had something in it to cause the rb to cure. Some paints won't work in that situation.
