I have a '72 f100 with 302 that runs like a clock, however I have a big problem, "I think." All of a sudden she's getting hot and blowing water out of both exhaust pipes. To me that sounds like two blown head gaskets. My question is how could that happen when it never got hot enough to even start steaming out of the radiator.
Also is it true that a 4V carb. gets better milage then a 2V and if so why?... This is a great show... Thanks ahead of time. You guys are teaching me a lot.

Is the coolant level low in the rad? What I mean is, is it really coolant coming out of the exhaust? Or is it just condensation? You should be able to smell the anti-freeze in the exhaust, kind of a sweet smell and lots of white-ish smoke.
If you having coolant spraying out both exhausts it should be running like crap. How hot does the engine get? Is the thermostat stuck closed? Or is the rad plugged?
The head gaskets can go with out overheating or over revving. They can actually just wear out, heat expansion, corrosive exhaust gases and corrosion due to the coolant weakens them.
You can do a coolant system pressure check to see if there is an internal leak. Also a compression check will reveal a blown head gasket.
Hope this helps some.

As I understand it, say you are comparing a 390cfm 2v to a 600cfm 4v. The 2v; both barrels are always flowing. The 4v; only the primary barrels are flowing (1/2 of 600 is 300, smaller than 390). Of coarse when you sink your foot into it the other 300 comes on line. So unless you are getting into the secondaries (tromping on the gas) you are using 2 barrels that are smaller than the 2 barrels of the 2v. In real life, I replaced my autolite 2v on my 302,with a 600cfm edelbrock performer and aluminum manifold and didn't notice much difference in mileage. I am no carburator expert however.
