i have a 2000 f250 superduty 7.3 turbo diesel.. i seem to a serious oil leak on the top of the motor. i cant find out wear its coming from. i have to add a gallon of oil to it about 1700 miles.. the top of the intake is covered in oil.. any ideas??????????????
Several places it could come from. Clean engine with simple green or other degreaser and hose off with garden hose. After engine is clean, crank it up and look to see if you can see anything. If not, take for a short drive and check again. If it is pumping out that fast, it could be on the high pressure system and it will get worse. It is hard to tell where it comes from if the entire engine is covered with oil. Let us know what you find.
where is high pressure system.. the turbo cover up all the crap i need to look at to see where its comming from... some i know told me to check a plug torward the back of motor ..???????
HPOP (high pressure oil pump) is the rectangle shaped thing that sits on the top front of the engine on the drivers side. The lines coming out go to the high pressure oil rails on each side of the engine. The lines have O rings that are prone to leak. There are also plugs in the rail that have O rings that are also prone to leak. You could also have a leak from the O rings on the turbo pedestal. It is hard to see most of these. Remove the cover over the fuel filter and get a good light and maybe a mirror. It will be hard to see where it is coming from until it is cleaned up so you can see fresh oil and where it is coming from.
awsome.. thank you so much... i am dropping the truck off to the guy i bought it from.. { a friend . whos a mechanic } whos going to fix it .. so i will pass on info and let u know what the out come is.. thanks so much...... artie
