I was wondering if there is a trick to getting the door lock to work. Or if it is common for them to go out after some time. When I push down on the door lock it only moves down half way and then pops back up as soon as I take my finger off of it. When I try to use the key it won't budge. I tried tinkering with it but no luck. I don't want to take the other door apart to see how that works if I don't have to.
CT, The locks are pretty simple, you will have to access it through the inner door panel. Go armed with a can of WD40 and spray everything real good. Until you get in there and diagnose it, it is a little hard to call, except it should be simple to fix.
CT Cruiser, the lock on my 72 is so bad that it always drops down to the locked position no matter if I pull it up it falls right back down,I have accidentaly locked myself out already but cannot figure out why it is doing this. Before this the lock was acting as yours is,I tried lube but it seemed to make it drop down easier.I am going to have to take off the inside panel again and try to remove the whole lock to see what is broken.Let me know if you find anything and I will do the same.

I took the other door apart and discovered that there is a little spring the pushes the lever back up against the outer door mechanism. When it is pressed up against the outer mechanism there is a slot on the lever that allows the lock to make clearance. I found the old spring laying at the bottom of the door so I was in luck.
"Lock-Ease" a graphite base product suspended in a petroleum distillate, penetrates into the lock / key slot then the solvent evaporates leaving a dry film. No oils to collect dust and dirt.
