Blah, blah, sounds everybody makes when they talk about increasing gas mileage anymore. Slow down, dont come to abrupt stops, use cruise control more, blah, blah. Well that blah, blah, has earned me 2 more mpgs!!!
YES THATS RIGHT, 2 mpg MORE. I was averaging 10mpgs and then i decided to just slow down (usually only 5mph over speed now), use the cruise A TON, and begin to drift/slow down before the red light.
One other thing i did after researching on here, was switch my fuel to BP. I would use whatever was the cheapest, with exception to the "water fuel" places who are so cheap. I can really tell a difference in throttle exceleration and grunt. I know, I know, sounds stupid, but its true. Truck has almost 16k on it so I know what she can do and how she acts. The BP has put an extra horse in her.
2 MPGs INCREASE on AVERAGE!!! WOW! I loved my V10 before, but now I AM IN LOVE with my V10, HAHAHA!
Yeh, I pretty much run exclusivly BP or Cenex. I perfer BP, but there are only two stations in town now that Tesaro bought the refinery in bismarck a few years ago. Cenex has a pile of stations so they are always convienent but I have driven out of my way many times to fill at BP with both my cars and my truck.
I did the same thing an noticed between 1.5-2 mpgs that being said it I went back to driving my normal way.
I was towing a trailer that was about 2K empty flatbed and since I was towing and I do not tow all that often I took it easy. So with a 2K pound trailer my MPG was higher then empty...
If I am not mistaken, it is the additive package for a particular brand that makes them different. My old partner used to own BP stations in North Carolina. He told me all fuel comes from the same tank but different companies have different additives that are added at the truck (tanker) before delivery.
Chevron gasoline has met the Top Tier clean fuel requirements since 1973. Their additive package that is. Chevron is the leader in providing a product that keeps the intake valves, combustion chamber, and piston tops clean. They also claim to keep your emissions equipment clean for 100,000 miles. Again, so they claim. This is done in all three grades .
I've been using Chevron exclusively for 2yrs. In the truck I get 13.5mpg city/hwy. Manual trans, shift at 2000 rpm, no cruise control, plan way ahead and drift/cruise to slow down to stop lights. I do get on it when the desire arises though (alot lately).
On one note though, my gas cap does say "Ford recommends BP Gasolines". I've yet to put any in my tank though, I'll have to give it a try.

Hey I have a stupid question. What is BP fuel ? I use Chevron or 76 most of the time. Is it similar or the same?
BP = Brittish Petroleum. They bought the Amoco name in the US. Chevron and 76 are both Owned by Phillips I believe, who also owns the Connoco name. If I am not mistaken, there are like only 4 actual companies anymore. They all just bought up a bunch of the names and operate the stations under the brand names. Shell, Phillips, Exxon and BP are the four that come to mind. I think Phillips and Exxon are the only two refiners/producers in the country. However, I could be wrong.
I do have those "let the ponies out of the barn" moments, i mean that is what the V10 is for!!!!! But to get 2mpgs better! this is great! Now when i go to tow my 5ver, ill be back down in the 7-8mpgs, so when i get my 12mpgs, i'll be even that much more jubilant, haha!
For 2 mpgs, I would quit hitting the Shell up the street (because they are closest) and the Phillips 66 because they are the least expensive. (and only 2 blocks from Shell). BP is about 5 minutes away, I am going to give it a try on my next fill up, (Friday).

chevron makes techron the best fuel cleaning additive made right now.it's always been great fuel.
ever notice evry car builder sells a feul additive in the very same bottle as techron? thats because it is techron.even harley d's aditive
Captchas, you hit the nail on the head about the techron, it is by far and away the best cleaning additive on the market. I have run a few bottles through my car, and I suppose it wouldn't hurt the truck to do the same now that my mileage is getting up towards the 33,000 mark. I have found that the E85 has kept the wifes car quite clean as far as fule filters go so I would imagine the rest of the fuel system is also the same.
On the refinery side, like I said earlier, we also have a TESARO refinery in bismarck. they bought out the amaco/bp refinery a few years ago (around 02' or so). I really ahve no Idea how good there gas is compared to the others. I've run a coupld of tanks of the stuff and haven't notice a difference good or bad.
