I have never been of the mindset that all brands of gasoline were the same. I believe that, yes, the gasoline comes from a handfull of refineries, but, that it is the additive package that makes the fuel. For me anyway.
I did a lot of research online, and dug up some info on Chevron that convinced me they were the one to use. The fact that the Big Three selected Chevron gasoline years ago, to use in new engines, designed to meet Federal clean engine and emissions specs over the long haul, was one. There is a lot more to testing engine components for the accumulation of carbon etc, after fuel has been burned in it for several thousand miles. You have to keep the emissions components clean, and not gunk up the cats in the process. Chevron has demonstrated to me, they are the one to beat.
In my area, they are either, a few pennies cheaper than the next cheapest brand or just about middle of the road. It depends how far off the interstate you are, and how many other gas stations are around. In some cases you could blindly throw a dart, and hit a gas station Even if they were, or are a few cents more a gallon, I've always had the "Pay me now or pay me later" mentality.
And yup, I had noticed the similarity in the little black Techron additive bottles sold by others, but I wasn't sure they contained the good stuff!
Chevron is not alway easy to find though, and as their literature states, they are not available at all in Detroit.
Anyway, have a good one guys, enjoy those V10s, it's a bee e a utiful thing indeed!

Hi guys, New here and to the V10. Just bought a 2000 F250 4x4 and I am getting almost 15mpg combined driving (no towing yet). Guess I should count my blessings! I have tried BP, Citgo, and Shell gasolines and have noticed that my mileage actually drops with BP, to around 10 mpg.
thanks for all the great replies, sounds like I'm not the only one trying to squeeze 1-2mpgs out of this awesome engine. this past week i actually got 12.3mpgs out of a tank. I am so loving this.
bp they have no choice since bp now owns amoco what they seem to have liked before.out here when you find one it reads bp/amoco.
rusty i'm behind you on that post.just near by me we don't have much choice in brands. so i buy techron in the big bottles by the case and use it every other tank.
heck even mobil is gone here now changed to some thing called lukoil . leaves the choice of no name , lukoil, gulf, getty. and hess
I hear ya on the availability of the Chevron fuels. It is really hard to find the stuff out on the open road. Everything else abounds, Exxon, BP/Amoco, Texaco, Shell, Gulf, Sunoco etc. All good stuff. And yeah when I've done alot of traveling, and can't get Chevron, I add a black bottle of Techron to what ever is in the tank. Even though I'm loyal to Chevron, it just isn't as common a filling station as the rest. Just lucky I guess to have one 5 miles up the road.
towandcamp,
Please don't take this as a slam, it's not. I read the link you hooked us up with, but it sounded more like a promotional campaign by both companies to make people aware of two things. Ford and BP/Amoco. Both good companies, and I do use BP/Amoco over many others. I just don't see any technical reasons listed in their promo to back up Fords claim/campaign that I should use BP/Amoco fuels exclusively. Amoco used to have the clear 93 octane stuff, good stuff too. Not sure if they still do, as I have not used it in years. I've long since been a user of 87 octane. Engine in good tune, use what the manufacturer recommends.
With regards to what the one poster originally commented on, that he got better mileage with BP/Amoco. He probably did, and I will have to give it a try next time I fill up. But at this point, Chevron is the clear winner (in my mind at least) when it comes to keeping an engine and the emissions components clean. Clean engine should equal good mileage per gallon.
Which reminds me, will gas (87 octane) still be $2.77 a gallon on Monday? or will the latest nonsense in the Middle East have racked it up over $3 a gallon? Fun...
Hey, have a great weekend, it's hot and real muggy today in VA. I feel like I'm living in the tropics these past few days.

You mean you haven't yet had the pleasure of $3.00 a gallon? I filled up last night at $3.03/9 at the closest BP, going to see if it does in fact give any improvement. I was pretty low on fuel, the fill cost me $99.95. Is this not getting absolutely ridiculous, or what? I have an older 7.3 that I was driving, trying to save some fuel. Have to say, mileage ain't a whole lot better and price is a bit higher for Diesel. Looking for something small and economical for after work driving to try and take some of the load off. This is nuts.
rusty, i agree about the promotion. however, for me the BP has increased my MPGs although as i said in my post, i believe most of the improvement has come from me right foot, but like i said i have noticed a destinct smoothness in acceleration with BP over other fuels.
no name here hit 3.09 today and rumor word is the next tanker load will 25 cents more a gal. at the marina it's almost $5.00 for 92 blend that did go up 25 cents today with a fresh load, this v10 is about to be parked for a while.
hang 10 i'm with you maybe a kia elcheapo with just ac
I filled the truck on saturday for 3.05/gal. I also got some terrible gas and the damn thing was pinging all the way home pulling the camper. Any time I was lugging it at all it would start pinging, needless to say thats the last fricken time I fill at a tesaro station. I filled with reg 87 octane an although it was near the 100 degree mark there is no reason it would have been pinging, ecspecially when I had to pay over $80 to fill the dang thing. My mileage was the worst I had ever seen, hell it took a half tank to drive 75 miles!! To top it all off they screwed me on the amount of propane that I had them fill. I had two 30 gallon tanks and I was just topping them off so I would be good for the rest of the summer, both tanks were 50% to 75% full yet they charged me for for filling both tanks completely!!!! I asked and the lady said "well, we don't have a meter on the porpane station that tells how much we've put in, so we just charge by the size of the bottle!!! I was pretty pissed about that and then to have the truck pinging the whole way home and my mileage in the crapper was enough to to get me throwing out some four letter words!! Now I have to use the other half of a tank up this week so I can refill with some better gas before I head to the lake this coming weekend! Stopping there for fuel and Propane cost me $75 extra between the propane and the crappy gas! I guess I'll be back to BP or Cenex before the weekend.
Obviously you boys haven't had the pleasure of rolling thourgh California lately! I've been paying anywhere from $3.13 to $3.29 per gallon for a while. And that's the CHEAPEST in my area!!
