If you really want a 7.3, you should look for an older SD in good shape. Wouldn't be at all cost effective to swap. The body styles are so close that I cant imagine why you would want to do a swap like that. Unless you are wanting the integrated brake controller and upsized rotors over an older model???
does anyone know if it is possible to put a 7.3 in place of 6.0 in a 2005 f450
Why on earth would you want to put an under powered motor in a superb truck? The junk 7.3 dogamatic would have to be swapped in as well, as the torqueshift won't fit the 7.3. If its reliability your after, just get Internationals de-tuned version of the 6.0, the VT 365 and drop it in.
hey jljr42 you know you could very easily swap a cummins into that and the sale of the 6.0 would almost cover the cost of the swap then you would no loger be plauged by the problems of the 6.0 and would have a lot more powerful engine that will handle a few power mods easily.
I bought the truck to pull my fifth wheel. It's got a custom hauler bed with air ride suspension. It only has 13000 miles on it. It overheats on hot days when towing, it has turbo chatter and can't pull a hill. I have had it in 3 times they keep telling me there is nothing wrong with it. It blew coolant all over the engine and they told me the cap had a leak. (funny)

The sale of a 6.0 will not cover a cummins swap and it is not easy. either swap is more trouble than its worth. I don't know why you'd want either inferior engine in your compartment.
Go buy a 7.3 truck for cost effectiveness. BTW-manic has never said anything positive on the board
I'll bet if you go to the 7.3 forum and post a I'll swap my 2005 for your 1999 and give you a couple of grand too, you'll not get one 7.3 owner that will let go of his "inferior" engine.
Ok, I have to comment here, I use my trucks hard, pulling stock trailers full of cows and all here in the northwest over mountain passes in high altitudes, i have had several 7.3's and now on my 4th 6.0l, sure my 04 had some issues but all in all these are fantastic engines. My best freind has two dodges, one 1999 and a 2004, the 99 has been relitivly trouble free 200k, but he has replaced the clutch a few times and had the trans rebuilt at least once if not twice, his 2004 has been allot of trouble, it cracks the exhaust manifold and most recently the turbo pedestal broke, he has had u joints go out and now most recently the head gasket went all this in only 70k. So if you think for a min chabging brands youre going to gain anything think again!
Those days of the simple diesle engine are gone, the old non turbo 7.3 and the simple 5.9 cummins are history. What makes modern diesels appear to be less reliable are all the high tech stuff they put on to make more horsepower and meat stricht emission requirements.
I have almost 40k on my 2005 F350 KR I beat the heck out of it, no problems to date. My new 2006 F350 KR is in the shop for a vibration, big deal..................
