Hi i have a 460 in my 78 f150. When i start up my truck my stock oil pressure guage reads about 3/4 way through normal, after a few minutes of running the guage decreases to the "N" in "normal" any ideas on the problem? what about testing the pressure with a compression tester, where to get a fitting for a guage to fit in the opening in the engine?
Ford's gauges are not the best but the amount you mention the problem is Nil.
If you want "peace of mind"
Intall a mechnical gauge T'd in with the sending unit on the engine.
Then when you question the pressure just pop the hood and look at the most accurate gauge.
Oil pressure decreases as the parts heat up opening up the orifice between the bearings and journals.
Of course you could always tear down the engine and replace the oil pump and clean the pickup strainer.
