Service Engine Soon Codes

I have 173,000 miles on a 2001 PSD 4X4 Limited. Friday, the service engine soon light came on. Yesterday, I had a guy that had a code reader cleared the codes after he read them. Here are the codes:
P0603
P0674
Can anybody help?

Any idea what that would cost to repair both things?

PO603 has to deal with the computer, It is saying that the Keep Alive Memory cable is not connected or something is wrong with it. There should be a small wire hooked up to a ground on one of the battery's. Check for that.
PO604 is there is a problem with the glow plug for cylinder 4, it needs to be replaced or there is a problem with the wiring for it. The glow plug helps in starting so it might be a good idea to get that one checked out.

One other thing, last summer I took off the muffler to cut down on the backpressure. I would have thought that if this would have been a problem, I would have known by now!
