i wouldn't use it. it may be ok but i would not be willing to make my fuel system the the test subject. fuel biocide is cheap compared to an injector

You would need to check with the manufacturer to see if it is compatable with diesel fuel and water. The biocides used for deisel have to also work in water since there is always water in diesel fuel and microbs grow in both. As easy as it is to get the right stuff I would just use the approved biocide and not risk the possible damage to my equipment.

tj, I just bought the latest and greatest (acording to my parts store) from Power Service. It's called Slime X. I don't know if that's new or not, but that's what they gave me. It's in a white bottle, same size and shape as the small diesel kleen bottles. And it has green labeling. But it's specific for the alge in Diesel and water. I will fill up probably early next week and will be using it. I'll run through that fill up and change the filter again. And like you said probably dose it again to be sure. Thanks again for all your help.

i would wait til the second dose to change the filter as it may take a little longer for the junk to pass out of the tank. but i am glad to hear you got some slime x. haven't heard of it before but power service makes good stuff!

just to make a couple of quick comments... my 'water in fuel' light came on the other day so later that evening when i got home i opened the fuel housing cover and opened the drain to let the water out. well i did this in the dark so when i screwed the cover back down i really messed up the gasket. so i went and got another filter with the gasket. when i pulled the filter it looked exactly as TJbeggs described, oily, slimey, greasey, black, and nasty.

b/c of this thread i went out and got some diesel kleen and i am treating it as we speak. i must have filled up at one of those backwoods gas stations that has let their diesel sit for months on end.

thanx for this thread rubberduck and thanx for the help tj

other than what i read here anything else i need to do? just keep running biocide/diesel treatment in my tanks and then replace the filter later down the road? anyone get a better deal on fuel filters than i do? i paid $40 and i'm not sure i can do that more than once a year, lol

fleetfilter.com for filters. and keep running diesel kleen but also get a specific biocide for the algae like the slime x rubberduck got and run it through twice then change the filter. that simple. and all fuel has the ability to get algae. if one tanker truck gets it then delivers fuel for the next who know how longer the algae has the potential to spread.

Glad we could help Fishy. But like I said earlier, I always run Stanadyne and Diesel Kleen when I'm out of Stanadyne and I still got algae. So brother if your just using Diesel Kleen it may not do the trick alone. I got the Slime X from my local A-Line parts store. The PowerService part # is 9225. That's what's on the bottle. So if you have a parts store that sells Diesel Kleen, I'm certain they can get the Slime X. And I still have to give all the thanks to tj, cause I was thinking injector O rings right away. And tj, I'll hit it twice before the filter change. Fishy, $40 sucks man. I get mine for like $25 from A-line. But I'm good friends with the guys who run it so I get decent deals. I'm sure you can get them cheaper on Fleetfilter.com but I just don't like to wait. But I do get my air filters there. Let me know how your algae killin' is going and I'll do the same.
