im am aware of the sensitivity ya'll have to the cummins name and that partly why i always mention it cause it ruffels someones feathers and its always funny to hear the responses. however when i do mention cummins i speak it in truth when i say it will it things thing for lunch thats casue it has but thats besides the point this thread is to fix a sick powerstroke if you don't want w/ that then lets start another thread and have a good debate that is if the moderaters will let it go. seems like the rule w/ an iron curtain if its not showing ford as good and dodge as bad then its locked. thats yet another thread so i wont go any farther w/ that lets get back to fixing this powerstroke or as i feel about it right now powerjoke. we all now know its sick so lets make it feel better give me things to test that might have an affect on this thing. like ive been saying psd is not my specilty so i need to be told the problems that are common knowledge to ya'll
I've an idea for you, sell it. Or use it for a bomb and let it off in front of the state capital building in sacromento.....wait that don't look right. Maybe it is Sacramento.....yeah that's better.
Am I the only one here who isn't rattled by mhannink's smack???
Mhannink, I know you like to praise your Cummins. I like them too, I was all set to buy one myself because I have seen how powerful they are, but have chosen a Ford for the quality of the body.
And anything beyond discussing the F450 is off topic for this thread.
Stick to the Ford and you'll get more help than you need.

In light of your situation, I suggest getting some guages.
It seems that the only way to get this job done right is to do it yourself. Nobody else can or is willing to take the time beyond a scanner.
1. A 100lb guage that you can hook up to the fuel rail with a long hose and go drive it. See what the fuel pressure is under load.
2. A high pressure guage, minimum 3000 psi, 4000 would be better and connect it to the HPOP rails. If you can, rig up a hose so you can drive it and observe that as well.
You should see an absolute minimum of 45 psi fuel pressure at all times from idle to WOT climbing a big hill, 55-65 is optimum.
HPOP pressure is around 500 at idle and varies depending on engine load. I've heard reports of 2500 at WOT being just about right. I'm not sure of the HPOP numbers, I suggest getting a manual and doing a little homework on that one.

I'm thinking maybe you are. I used to belong to several pirate tv sites and you are one cool customer when it comes to being a mod. This thread would have been closed and a few members banned, or at least suspended elsewhere. I once owned a 95 Dodge 3500 Dually absolutely the biggest pile of junk I have ever owned. when it came to the quality of the truck. I have no problem with the Cummins myself, it is the platform it comes in. I remember my payments on that truck were in the $800.00 range and I was near tears every month when I wrote that check. Even the payment book was a piece of crap.

I even gave kind instruction on maybe the proper way to start the thread (knowing how trigger happy we can be). The follow up post from the originator continued along it's dark path.
At this point I'm just gonna read.
The point.....the point is: Get to the point.
Ok so I am a new guy to Diesel exclusive of my farm Tractor. I bought a Excursion w/ 7.3 diesel and it is a nice truck. I am not into racing,, "except for my Corvette on the track".. I have done zero work on a diesel and pulled my first engine apart in 1951. But try not to laugh at this one.. WHAT IS PSD? I assume you are referring to the 7.3 diesel. I have a friend who runs a custom shop for Corvettes and into racing. He is telling me he can Hypotec reprogram my 7.3 for better fuel economy and quicker shifts. I am not looking for a corvette here but if it can deliver better than 20 mpg at 65 mph that would be great given current fuel prices. Of course I can't use my tractor diesel fuel in the Excursion. Any advise here would be great. Jim
PowerStroke Diesel Welcome to FTE. You will probably want to start a new thread with your questions and most are done reading this thread. You will have more inputs on modding your Ex. than you can imagine.
If you guys would just stop replying to the troll, the troll will get bored and go somewhere else. The problem is every time mhannink comes in here spewing his childish crap, somebody gets all riled up about it.
Leave it alone, don't reply to it, and it's gone off the page in a matter of hours.....that's all you have to do. The only reason he posts in this forum is to troll....read any of his posts in this forum and you'll see it. Just let it pass.
Thread closed.....again.
